Disability  Bowls

 

Without doubt there is not a club in the country that does not have a disabled member.

Disability takes on many forms - Visual, Hearing, Physical, Sensory and Learning; for most people who fall within these groups bowls is an accessible sport.

How many people do you know who play with bad knees, sore hips, hearing aids? Not all disabilities are visual.

Bowls is a great game that helps provide gentle exercise, improve mental wellbeing, combats loneliness and is also a game which can be played to whatever the limits are of a player’s ability. If you want to have a social game with your mates once a week that is fine, however if you aspire to represent your county or country there are paths open to you.

Disability Bowls England is the co-ordinating body for any disabled players in England. We provide support and advice to both individuals and clubs, have friendly fixtures, competitions and can advise on classification if someone wants to play at a higher level. We have a full range of approved disabled bowling aids, which we demonstrate at clubs and events all around the country.

Disability Bowls England works closely with the International Bowls for the Disabled association, Bowls England, EIBA, BDA, EBUA, Coach Bowls, VIBE, and other interested parties.

Section 41 of the current Laws of the Sport Chrystal Mark 4th Edition, covers all aspects of the laws governing Disabled bowlers and sets out the aids and assistance they are entitled to have. The National Governing Bodies websites have sections setting out the available bowling aids and equipment disabled people can use.
